A baby shower is a way to celebrate the pending or recent birth of a child by presenting gifts to the mother at a party. The term shower is often assumed to mean that the expectant mother is “showered” with gifts. I have always been fascinated by the different interpretations of this memorable occasion. I read somewhere that after World War II, baby showers became very popular as a way of supporting new parents with the financial burden of having a baby.
Having attended a few baby showers and after seeing pictures through social media, I have always imagined what my baby shower would be like. Bear in mind that the expectant mom is not part of the planning and that her best friend or friends are the ones trusted with the planning and execution.
Nomndeni, my best friend of 15 years has been responsible for planning all my birthday celebrations for the last 5 years. The agreement is pretty simple, I tell her exactly what I want and she will put it together exactly the way I want it.
With my baby shower it was a bit different as she kept a lot of details from me. As much as I trust her, it had me worried at times. I had hinted at a few things, one of them being the fact that I would not be taking part in any baby shower games, that would require of me to eat any disgusting concoctions, or leave me covered in baby powder. I wanted a classy and fun time with the people I love.
With that said, my baby shower was amazing! It was everything I wished for and more …
Join me as I take you through my most memorable MOMents.
The venue and lunch setting was simply royal … fit for a queen. Pregnant women deserve amazing food and the 3-course meal did not disappoint.
I was wearing the most beautiful dress from FabroSanz.
All my close family and friends were present, although some couldn’t make it. I must also mention that my guests were dressed up and looked absolutely beautiful.
We sat around the table and everyone shared their special MOMents. We chatted about pregnancy myths and some of the most ridiculous advice they had ever received about pregnancy. This had us all in stitches.
My baby is due in July so a calendar for July was passed around and everyone had to guess the due date. Nobody guessed it correctly; the actual date will only be revealed to the guests when our little girl is born.
I loved the cake so much that I did not want to cut it. There were two baby grows and everyone wrote a special message on them for the baby. I was instructed that the baby had to wear these.
I would like to thank Nomndeni, my Superman, friends and family for making sure that I had the most memorable baby shower. I felt loved and it’s a day I will never forget.
