Dear Baby K, your lease has expired and this is your final notice to vacate the womb within the next 24 hours … It is not a requirement that you leave the residence in the condition in which you found it … LOL !!!
It’s the day before the birth of our precious buddle of joy and I have literally spent the last month, packing for this day. I don’t think one can ever be fully prepared for an occasion like this. I’m a big planner and I want things to run according to plan but I have just realized that I will not be fully in control of the events taking place tomorrow. I feel overwhelmed, I have been planning for so long but still there are so many things that I need to do. It is my best friend, Nomndeni’s birthday today and I would have liked to plan a special day for her, but preparations for Baby K are taking over.
As much as I cannot control what happens tomorrow, there are things that have been put in place to make sure that the experience is memorable for our family. My pregnancy has been exactly what I wanted it to be, happy and special. There have been challenges along the way but I have refused to let them dampen the mood. The same goes for the birth of our baby, I want it to be happy and special.
Comfort is key, our privacy is everything, familiarity is important and it has to be a fabulous occasion! It appears that all my wishes will be granted as my baby’s father has reserved a luxury private room for us at the hospital. I have imagined the room with flowers everywhere, a beautiful carrycot, the smell of home, tea, family and friends.
My family is having a good laugh, looking at my hospital bag(s). They say it looks like I’m going on a holiday to Mauritius, rather than to hospital to have a baby. I have over-packed and I am not bothered at all … LOL. I had to make sure I have everything I need for this special day.
Let me share with you what I have packed for my hospital stay, as well as everything and everyone else that I am taking along, which could not fit into the bags! I hope it gives you some ideas if you are preparing for the birth of your baby or maybe you will just have a good laugh about how ridiculous I am about “my needs” for my hospital stay.
First things first …
Being a tea lover … it made sense to pack some of my favourite teas and tea cups (-:
The BeSafe iZi Go car chair has been installed, ready to bring Baby K safely home from hospital.
Music … there is no way we are having a baby without music. Music for Mommy and Daddy and music for baby. For Baby K, I have chosen Ewan the Dream Sheep and a Sophie Giraffe rattle from Kids Emporium, as well as her soon to be favourite rockstar microphone rattle from Lullaby Rock
I am learning more every day about the importance and benefits of Stem Cell Storage and I am happy that we have a collection kit from Cryo-Save packed and ready to go …
Personal toiletry bags … one for me and one for Baby K … every girl should always have her personal favorites with her wherever she goes (-: We will share some of our favourite products in a later post.
I’m taking some of my own pillows and my favourite blanket … for a homely, personal touch.
My Affinity Pro electric breast pump from Lansinoh and everything else I will need for breastfeeding and breastmilk storage has been packed.
MagicMesh car window shades have been applied, bringing all our favourite animals into the back seat of the car and keeping the sun out at the same time!
Secondly, I tried to stick to the essentials list provided by Medi Clinic Baby on their website. This is their list but to be honest, I have packed more outfits than recommended for my baby, because I couldn’t choose which ones to take … (-:

Lastly and most importantly, Baby K’s daddy is packed up and ready to go off to the hospital with us for the next few days … definitely the most important on our list.
Tomorrow it is finally happening and throughout all the planning and activity, the warmth and love which surrounds me, is all I have been thinking about as I wait for our precious girl, our victorious one, Baby K.
