At the beginning of January this year, I set a goal to lose 10kg’s by the end of May. I achieved my goal 60 days later.
You can change your life, but it all starts in your mind. This applies to anything in life not just losing weight. You have to find the motivation and focus to make it happen.
When we find ourselves in an unfavourable position like being overweight, in a bad relationship, in an unhappy relationship or any similar situation, is not always easy to stay positive. This is when it becomes very easy to slide into a negative mindset and lose the courage and motivation to do anything.
If you want to change your life, you have to change your mind. Changing your thoughts are extremely important when facing problems. We limit ourselves by thinking limiting thoughts or holding limiting beliefs. “I will never be able to lose 10kg’s” or “I chose to be in this relationship so I have to accept it even if I am not happy” or “maybe my job is not that bad, at least I have one”. Our limiting thoughts and beliefs can become our mind’s prison and motivation’s worst enemy.
We have to set our minds free. Let your thoughts become your wings, taking you to places you never thought you could go! All change starts in the mind, therefore you need to change the way you think in order to improve your life.
Where did my motivation come from to lose 10kg’s in 60 days?
I am using a program which employs proven weight loss concepts but no matter how good the program, I would not have been able to achieve my goal without practicing the following mental exercises consistently.
Choose an achievers attitude and practice it. Choose to be positive. You are in control of your life.
I chose to believe that I will lose 10kg’s before the end of May. I was going to make it happen and nobody could convince me otherwise.
Make a decision about what you want. Set a goal with a deadline and write it down. My goal was to get fit and lose 10kg’s by the end of May. I wrote an entire blog about it.
Don’t put it off. Take action today towards achieving your goal. What is the first step? Do that first little thing required to get you into action. Don’t procrastinate and think you will do it tomorrow. Chances are you won’t.
I decided on the 1st of January that I would start the program on the 8th of January. I took immediate action and started preparing mentally for weight loss. I started visualising, I chose my affirmations and I started reading through the weight loss program. On the 8th of January I was fully prepared to start.
When you focus on success, you start to see opportunities and results. It is amazing what focus can do. I no longer saw obstacles, only solutions! When I could not get to my exercise sessions, I designed my own workout and exercised at home. Nothing was going to stop me from getting fit.
I have a very sweet tooth and when I start eating sweets I can easily finish a whole packet. When I became focused on my goal, someone could be eating sweets right next to me and I would not be tempted. I was constantly aware of my goal and I wanted it so badly that nothing would steer me off course.
When you set a goal for yourself, by yourself and you don’t share it with anyone, it is easier to give up on your goal than if you had shared it with someone. If you share your goal you become accountable to another person.
I chose to share my goal with the world. I wrote a blog about it and shared it on social media. After doing so, I really had no choice, I had to do it!
When you share your goal you also rally support. I have received countless emails and messages of interest and encouragement from people I have never met. It did wonders for my motivation.
Start with the end in mind. Visualise how your life will be once you have achieved your goal. Use images of what it will be like and look at them all the time.
I used a vision board. I imagined having loads of energy and being able to play with Kairo, having fun and enjoying life! I also imagined oozing confidence and looking absolutely amazing and getting compliments for my achievement. I imagined having a positive impact on people, sharing my story with others, inspiring and motivating others and helping them be successful at losing weight, building their self-esteem and changing their lives!
Affirmations are powerful tools. I chose 10 personal affirmations which I read first thing in the morning and just before I fall asleep at night.
These are my affirmations
- I love my children without exception
- I am fit and full of energy
- I am confident
- I trust the decisions I make
- I am worthy of love
- I have skill with people
- I am at peace with myself and the world
- I am grateful for the abundance in my life
- I am responsible for my success
- Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels
I became super excited about my weight loss. I could not wait to get onto the scale in the mornings and to announce my weight to the world! You have to maintain motivation through interest and enthusiasm for whatever it is that you want to achieve.
The key word is consistency. It is easy to lose focus if you don’t focus on being consistent.
Boredom is the silent killer of motivation and enthusiasm. Be creative and have fun with your goal. I enjoyed losing weight! I tried on new clothes, updated my vision board, made an effort with the presentation of my food and took lots of photographs!
It has to be fun. Laugh a little and don’t take it all too seriously.
A better body starts in the mind, so does a better job, a better relationship, a better life!
What do you want really want to achieve and how badly do you want it? You can have anything you want if you put your mind to it.
I hope by reading this you will get the motivation you need to take that first step to achieving whatever it is that you want for your life!
I have done it and you can too!
