Be Intentional

The words “be intentional” have been ringing in my head for the past few days. I think it came from watching my friend, Pearl, succeed at something and realising that she won because her intention was to do so.

It got me thinking about my life, my days and my efforts. I’m questioning whether I approach each day with clarity and whether the effort I put into everything I do are and intentional.

How often do we wake up with an expectation for our day without setting the intention? A good day is the result of a decision we make, we influence the outcome of our day to a great extent. If you wake up and say, “Today is not my day”, guess what, you will most likely not have the best day.

Have you set the intention for today? Someone somewhere woke up today and said, “Today is my day”. You might not have been aware of it but chances are you’ve already set the intention for today. Maybe you didn’t use words. Maybe you woke up feeling down, just accepting that today is going to be “one of those days”, unconsciously setting the intention for the day. You’ll hear someone say, “no one likes me”, that’s the intention they are putting out to the world and the universe will definitely deliver.

I listen to my friends and sometimes I wonder if they understand the power of the intention they are setting. I watch closely and realise that the intention is visible in the result. For example, I have a very wealthy friend who believes that making money is easy. I guess that’s why he is wealthy. He wakes up knowing what he can achieve and believes that it is without a doubt possible. Even when he is faced with a challenge, he doesn’t view it as the end of his journey but simply as a learning curve. He is INTENTIONAL. He believes that money is easy to make and more importantly he believes that he knows how to make money.

I am not saying that being intentional is all it takes. Actioning our words and feelings are what gives us the results but imagine actioning bad intention. It all starts with the intention. My theory is intention and effort is the formula for getting results. Effort, however, is wasted when the intention is bad or unclear. Setting a clear intention also doesn’t mean that our efforts will guarantee results but once the intention is clear, even if the results are negative, we are able to adjust and continue because the goal is clear.

What have you been struggling with? Have you set clear intentions? If you have been experiencing bad days, have you considered that, just maybe, you had something to do with it or have you have been blaming it on everyone else or circumstances?

As a mother my intention is to be the best mom to my child. My intentions are good and clear. Yes, sometimes I fail but I am always learning and improving in order to get the intended result in the best possible way.

If you wake up expecting to have a bad day, the intention has been set and you will surely have a bad day. Maybe you have just launched a new business, if you do not believe you will win and be successful, your efforts will be wasted because your intention is not that of success.

Be intentional in the way you approach life and start seeing the results.

Thank you for this post. I read it last night and well the intention was to sleep thereafter but at the time I really reflected on my intentions when embarking on various things but at the base just my intention for each day and how my thoughts manifest to the way the day pans out. So in the midst of reading the blog last night I instantly thought of how I had intended on being an ice-queen for the first day of work which is today and I had already recited how I was going to tell people off and react to different situations due to the nature of the environment I’m in. So this morning I woke up with a different intention and mind-set and decided to challenge the narrative and not allow myself to be controlled by the environment. I hope I can start making a habit of practicing good daily intentions and allowing God’s plans to manifest in my life and not get so consumed by the hurdles that come with the journey. Awesome post. Thank you.
