I am inspired by bold women. Women who ask for what they want and when given an opportunity grasp it with both hands and then deliver beyond their own expectation.
I’m passionate about women empowerment and I want to help as many women as possible to become successful in business and as entrepreneurs.
When Lerato Disemelo reached out recently proposing to plan an event for us, we decided to give her the opportunity and trusted her with our Moments Tea. The event was hosted at our new home, to celebrate the fact that we have finally moved in and to honour the many women entrepreneurs whom we have partnered with over the years, the Friends of Moments by Dj Zinhle.
It was a beautifully executed event, we had a great time and our guests enjoyed every moment. I am happy that we put our trust in Lerato and looking forward to working with her again.
Together with her husband Kabelo Mahobye, Lerato is the co-founder and owner of Rorisang Events Management.
Lerato, please tell us about yourself.
I am a mother to our four-year-old princess, wife to my business partner, daughter, sister and friend. Raised in Zeerust, North West province, I am family oriented and enjoys going out and creating precious moments and memories with my loved ones.
As an extrovert, I enjoy the company of people who motivate, challenge and inspire me. I often surround myself with people who are mature and more successful than me, people who can share valuable advice both socially and in business.
I enjoy the finer things in life and that coupled with my interest in business, triggered the idea and the birth of our events planning business.
Please tell us about your business
Rorisang Events Management is a family business and named after our daughter. Founded in 2015, it initially started as an equipment hiring business and later ventured into events planning. After just 2 years we have grown significantly and we are going strong.
Our company is based in Lynnwood, Pretoria East. Our target market is individuals and corporate entities. We provide elegant and quality furniture and events equipment to ensure uniqueness in this competitive business environment.
How did you get started and what was your first job in the industry?
This idea came when we were planning for our daughter’s first birthday party. We viewed a view stunning kids venues but none of them appealed to us or offered the type of equipment we desired. As a result, we decided to invest in our preferred kids chairs and tables. The event was successful and we fell in love with the idea of planning events.
Since inception we have done many events but what stood out for us was the feedback which we received when executing the 40th birthday of our closest friend. The quality and the outcome was exceptional and the responses from the guests and some family members, humbled us. People thought that the event was a surprise wedding for the couple.
What is your favourite part of working in the event industry?
Going beyond the clients’ expectations and doing what I am really passionate about.
Which event or accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
It goes without saying, planning for Dj Zinhle’s recent Moments Tea, is most memorable. Dj Zinhle is a well-established and respected brand in the social and entertainment industry, yet she offered us an opportunity to collaborate with her big brand, despite the size of our company. We are privileged to have interacted with Dj Zinhle and Glammy on a personal level, to brainstorm the planning of their event. Our company gained great market exposure through our association with Dj Zinhle. She is happy with the service which we delivered and as a result our Instagram statistics have grown exponentially. We remain forever grateful and indebted for this opportunity.
Do you ever get to attend a party and just enjoy it, or are you always thinking about it from a planner’s perspective?
Good question. I enjoy attending parties and at the same time it’s an opportunity to reflect and apply my mind from a planners’ perspective. I am constantly looking for ways to improve the quality and outcome of every event.
Which skills do you think are important in an event planner?
There are a number of fundamental skills required in events planning. From my point of view, I believe that planning, time management, paying attention to detail, creativity, innovation, flexibility and good interpersonal skills are essential skills to execute a successful event. Finally, events planning also require a bubbly and energic person, as it is time consuming and emotionally and physically demanding.
What advice would you give someone who is considering being an event planner?
Few tips for aspiring events planners:
- You need to be driven by passion, not money
- Time management
- Interpersonal skills to manage difficult clients
- Think outside the box
